Family Liaison Coordinator Disaster Victim Identification Course
Attendance criteria
Candidates must have completed an accredited Family Liaison Coordinator Course. Candidates must be Sergeants or Inspectors with line management responsibility for Family Liaison Officers. Previous Family Liaison Officer experience desirable but not essential. PIP level 2 desirable but not essential.
Course aim
To prepare Family Liaison Co-ordinators to competently fulfil the various roles of a Family Liaison Co-ordinator within the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) process.
Course objectives
- Describe the Police Family Liaison Role at Assistance / Reception Centres
- State the Roles and Responsibilities of Police Family Liaison within the Mortuary
- Plan, prepare and comprehensively complete the Interpol DVI form
- State the need for forensic retrieval within the DVI process
- State the role of the SIO and the SIM within the DVI process
- Explain the role of the Major Incident Room and Central Casualty Bureau in DVI and relevant documentation
- Explain the importance and value of victimology in Mass Disaster and in investigations in general
- Assess the completed Ante Mortem section of the Interpol DVI Form, Anti Mortem exhibits and associated paperwork
- State the welfare support available to FLO's both on and off duty, and welfare implications on the FLC
- Describe the responsibilities of a Family Liaison Co-ordinator during a Mass Disaster
