HOLMES2 CID User Course

Attendance criteria

This course is for police officers who have completed the Detective Foundation Programme (previously named the Detective Foundation Course) and have successfully completed the aptitude test.

Course aim

To enable the user to utilise HOLMES2 computer system effectively within a Major Incident Room in the role of Receiver or Document Reader. Also, to contribute towards effective team practice.

Course objectives

The student will be able to:

  • Thoroughly research an incident database
  • Create new records in all of the relevant indexes and link them if appropriate
  • Raise urgent actions for completion by the enquiry team
  • Allocate actions to officers on the enquiry team
  • Deal with actions returned to the MIR
  • Register documentation
  • Use the graphical document reading facilities
  • Have awareness of word processing functions
  • View and interpret the disclosure facilities
  • View and interpret the exhibit facilities
  • Use the list management facilities
  • Recall the relevant police Notices and other publications relevant to the use of the HOLMES 2 system
  • Define responsibilities under the Data Protection Acts and the Computer Misuse Act
